Let’s quickly summarize this week for you and then look at all the details.

Your uterus is expanding rapidly – which means that your belly is about to (or already has!) become visible.

Some expectant mothers can feel their baby’s movements as early as 16 weeks. If this is not your first pregnancy, you will be able to recognize the baby’s special kicks, nudges and wiggles more easily. These early movements are called “quickening”.

Amniocentesis is an optional test that can be done between weeks 15 and 20. It can diagnose neural tube defects, chromosomal abnormalities and other genetic disorders. Although it is generally considered safe, it is important to remember that it carries a very small risk of miscarriage.

You are now 16 weeks pregnant and things are getting very exciting. You may have another prenatal check-up this week and you may hear your baby’s heartbeat once again. Even more exciting, you may feel your baby’s kick, so start watching your baby’s movements from this week onwards. Another good news is that your baby is starting to hear your voice and will recognize it when it is born. So it’s a good idea to talk to your baby every chance you get.

16 Weeks Baby Development

One of the most exciting developments for your baby this week concerns her physical coordination skills. She can now hold her head upright and is trying to move around; she is beginning to explore her arms and legs. Facial development is also progressing: Her eyes and ears are moving closer to their permanent positions and she can make facial expressions such as blinking and frowning (like she’s ready for a little photo shoot!).

At 16 weeks pregnant, your baby’s tiny ear bones are developing and he or she can hear your voice. Hair, eyelashes and eyebrows are growing and more taste buds are forming.

At 16 weeks, what else does the baby do?

Growing! During the second trimester, your baby is going through a major developmental process, and it is no different for a 16-week-old fetus. Urine and blood production started a few weeks ago and now the urinary tract and circulatory system are starting to function more regularly. The liver and pancreas are producing secretions, bones are hardening, lung tissue is developing and even tiny toenails are starting to grow. In short, it’s a big week for your baby!

How Big is a 16-Week Baby?

At 16 weeks pregnant, your baby has reached the size of an avocado. It is about 11.7 to 14 centimeters long and weighs around 70 to 100 grams.

16 Weeks Corresponds to How Many Months?

16 weeks means you are four months pregnant, but doctors usually track pregnancy week by week.

16th Week Ultrasound

You will probably have an appointment for a four-month pregnancy check. As usual, you will probably have a urine test and your doctor will check for signs of gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia. You may also have an ultrasound this week, but don’t worry; another ultrasound will be done around mid-pregnancy.

16th Week of Pregnancy Pregnancy Symptoms

One more reason to celebrate: Some of the signs of pregnancy at 16 weeks are actually quite pleasant. For example, many expectant mothers notice that their hair and nails are growing faster. Your hair may look fuller and shinier and your skin more radiant. Here are some other signs you may notice at 16 weeks:

Back Pains Your posture is changing with your growing belly, which can cause back pain. Take time to do low-impact exercises to alleviate the pain. Make sure you stay upright when sitting and standing and stretch your body regularly.

Bigger Breasts: Your breasts may have grown one or two sizes by now and are expected to be fully ready for breastfeeding by the end of the second trimester.

Constipation: This uncomfortable symptom is caused by the uterus pressing on your intestines and an increase in pregnancy hormones. You can alleviate this by eating fiber-rich foods and drinking plenty of water.

Forgetfulness: also known as “pregnancy brain”. It is not known what exactly causes expectant mothers to become more forgetful. It could be biological, or it could be related to having too many things on your mind!

Dry, Itchy and Sensitive Eyes: Some moms-to-be may experience dry, itchy and watery eyes, especially if they suffer from allergies. Consider using over-the-counter eye drops or allergy medications for dry eyes, but be sure to consult your doctor before choosing.

Glowing Skin And finally that pregnancy glow that everyone talks about! Increased blood circulation in your body and hormones increase oil production in the skin, making your skin look brighter. However, choose your skin care products carefully and avoid products containing Retin-A.

What Do You Feel at 16 Weeks?

Your energy should increase during the second trimester. Many expectant mothers notice a glowing complexion due to increased blood flow and hormones. However, symptoms such as bleeding gums, leg cramps, aches, pains, skin discoloration and swelling are also common during the fourth month of pregnancy.

If you are expecting twins, the symptoms will not be very different from a singleton pregnancy. However, since twin pregnancies are high-risk, you should regularly discuss all your symptoms with your doctor.

16th week of pregnancy Mother’s abdomen

16th week of pregnancy

Soon, you will start to feel your baby moving in your belly. At first these movements may feel like gas or muscle twitching, but as your baby gets bigger and stronger, these movements will become more pronounced. If you’re expecting twins, you won’t feel kicks any earlier than a mom carrying a single baby, but you will feel the twins’ kicks more and more over time.

As you start to feel your baby’s movements, you may also experience difficulties, such as your lungs being squeezed by your growing baby, which can sometimes make breathing difficult.

16th Week of Pregnancy Will the Belly Grow?

By the 16th week of pregnancy, your belly may be starting to show. There are many factors that affect the size of your belly, including your expanding uterus and the swelling caused by excess fluid in your body. Of course, your growing baby is also starting to take up space!

Recommendations for the 16th week of pregnancy

What you can do to feel better this week:

Prevent Acne Problems

During pregnancy, your skin produces extra oil, which can lead to acne. You can control acne by using oil-free products. You can choose cleansers and care products containing glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide or azelaic acid. You should avoid products containing retinol and always consult your doctor before using an acne treatment.

Make Lists

The forgetfulness of the pregnancy brain can sometimes be challenging, so you can make it easier by creating a to-do list. You can use a digital planner or take notes with classic paper and pen. Keeping a to-do list will help you stay organized without skipping anything.

Update Your Bra Drawer

Your breasts may have grown considerably by this week and if your old bras are now too tight, it’s time to ditch the sexy lingerie and invest in a good quality maternity or nursing bra. This will give you the best support and make you more comfortable.

Find a Supportive Chair

If you work at a desk during pregnancy, this can increase back pain. Try putting a support pillow under your lower back or get a comfortable, ergonomic chair that allows you to keep your back straight.

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Below are some of the most common questions asked by expectant mothers during the 16th week of pregnancy and the answers to these questions.
